Huamei Kang, BA, MC, RCC, is a Registered Clinical Counselor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.
After obtaining her BA from Simon Fraser University, Huamei completed her Master in Counseling at City University of Seattle (Vancouver Campus) and she has been practicing counselling and working with people from all walks of life in a private setting as well as in the community. She has experience in supporting clients to work with issues such as parenting, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, relationship struggles for individuals, and family conflict.
Huamei came to Vancouver from a small town in Northern China in 2008. This life-changing decision was both exciting and difficult. Seeking understanding in her own struggles lead Huamei to her first counselling experience as a client. The non-judgmental listening and genuine validation was a gift for her in navigating all the nuance and tangled circumstances. Since then, Huamei followed her curiosity and pursued counselling academically. This valuable life experience allows her to better meet other’s pain with gentleness and kindness.
In understanding clients’ issues, Huamei works from a bio-psycho-social lens. Huamei views the core of her counselling work as building a trustworthy relationship with her clients and finding a way to support them to be in touch with themselves. Huamei appreciates the complexity in each person. In her practice, Huamei listens carefully to clients’ fears, resistance and strengths and honours all parts of a person.
She truly believes in the power of genuine curiosity and compassion in the healing process as she has seen how they generate trust, courage, a sense of flow and growth. Huamei’s commitment to her clients is to provide her best through continuous training, supervisions and inner work.
