Intern Counsellor (RCC Candidate)
Simrit is currently working towards her MA in counselling psychology at City University of Seattle.
For the last 5 years, Simrit has been working with youth and families experiencing a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, substance use, life transitions and relationship issues. In addition to her work with individuals and families, Simrit has also facilitated empowerment groups for preteen and teenage girls for the last 5 years.
Simrit believes that therapeutic relationships are of the utmost importance and act as the foundation upon which client transformation is built. Simrit works from a person-centered approach and utilizes a number of different modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Multisystemic Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Attachment Therapy and Mindfulness based interventions. Simrit believes that clients are the expert on their own lives and the role of the therapist is to provide a safe and secure environment within which the client can explore more than what is just visible on the surface of their experience. Simrit has experience helping clients navigate issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, family and relationship issues, emotional struggles, communication issues, anger management, substance issues, life transition and workplace bullying and harassment.
