FAQs

Common questions about counselling in New WestminsterCommon questions

Can't find your answer? Ask us a question.

  • Not yet. People in New Westminster can meet a counsellor online from home, or in person at a nearby office. Our Burnaby Square office on 6th Street is about 2 km away in a straight line, and our Surrey Central office on Whalley Boulevard and our East Burnaby office on Production Way are about 5 km away.

  • Yes. You can meet a counsellor by video from home or anywhere private in BC, with no travel. Online sessions follow the same steps as in-person ones: a free 15-minute consultation, a match with a counsellor who fits, then your first session.

  • You do not have to choose alone. Our intake team suggests counsellors who fit what you need, your language, your budget and where you want to meet, including online. You can also browse our team and read each counsellor's profile before you book.

  • Often, yes. Extended health plans cover online sessions the same as in-person ones, and many cover Registered Clinical Counsellors and Canadian Certified Counsellors; your plan's own details decide it. Our fees and funding page lists the fees, and sliding scale rates are open to eligible people.

  • Counselling is not an emergency service, so please do not wait for a session in a crisis. If you are in crisis, call or text 9-8-8, or call 911 if you are in danger. When you are ready for ongoing support, a free 15-minute consultation by phone or video is the place to start.
