Who it's for

Who online counselling is forWho it's for

Online counselling suits people anywhere in BC who would rather talk from home or another private spot. You do not need a crisis or a diagnosis to start.

  1. People anywhere in BC

Busy parents, shift workers, students, caregivers and people in smaller towns or far from an office.

  2. Support from a familiar space

Many come for anxiety, low mood, grief or a big life change and find it easier to open up from somewhere they feel at ease.

  3. Sessions by video

You meet your counsellor by video on a phone, tablet or computer, from a quiet spot where you will not be overheard.

About

More about online counselling

Online Counselling

Online or cyber counselling is an excellent option for those who prefer to do counselling from their own homes. At No Fear Counselling, many of our counsellors are open to many different video chat platforms, which include but are not limited to: Skype, Google Hangouts, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Zoom, Viber, and more.

Online counselling allows people to seek support and improve their well-being without the barriers that traditional face-to-face counselling can entail, such as the need to travel to a physical office or anxiety about meeting in person, or issues such as mobility or agoraphobia, and more.

Who Online Counselling Is Right For

Online counselling tends to work especially well if you:

  • Have a busy schedule and need the flexibility of not commuting to an office
  • Live outside Metro Vancouver or in an area with limited access to in-person therapists
  • Deal with social anxiety or find face-to-face meetings harder than talking from a familiar space
  • Have mobility limitations, chronic illness, or chronic pain that make travel difficult
  • Feel more comfortable opening up from the privacy and comfort of home
  • Are a parent, caregiver, or shift worker who needs sessions that fit around a packed day

Benefits of Online Counselling

  • No commute, which means more time and less stress around each session
  • Access to a wider pool of therapists, not limited to your immediate area
  • A comfortable, familiar setting that can make it easier to open up
  • Flexible scheduling across evenings, weekends, or between work commitments
  • The same confidentiality and clinical standards as in-person sessions
  • A strong option for people managing anxiety around new places or social situations

Techniques Used and How They Help

Most of the approaches used in person translate well to a video setting:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which works just as well through structured conversation and worksheets shared on screen
  • Mindfulness-based practices, easy to guide through video in a space where you already feel relaxed
  • Solution-focused therapy, for practical, goal-oriented progress session by session
  • EMDR, which many therapists now successfully adapt for online delivery

Making the Right Choice for You

If you think you'd feel more supported meeting face-to-face, our individual counselling page covers what in-person sessions look like, so you can weigh both options. No Fear Counselling offers online counselling to clients across Canada, alongside in-person offices in Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, and Surrey.

Many clients also move between online and in-person sessions depending on their schedule that week, so you're never locked into one format.

Contact No Fear Counselling

If online counselling sounds like the right fit, contact No Fear Counselling or book a consultation to get matched with a therapist who understands what you're going through. You can start from wherever you're most comfortable, whether that's your bedroom, your car during a lunch break, or a quiet corner after the kids are asleep. Our team will help you pick a video platform that feels easy for you, walk you through what the first session looks like, and match you with someone whose approach actually fits your situation, not just the next available slot.

Getting started is simpler than most people expect. There's no waiting room, no traffic, and no pressure to have everything figured out before you reach out. You just need a device, a bit of privacy, and a willingness to talk. From there, we take care of the rest, so you can focus on what actually matters: getting the support you need, on your terms.

FAQs

Common questions about online counsellingCommon questions

Can't find your answer? Ask us a question.

  • Many people find online counselling a good fit, and the talk-based approaches and skills you practise can carry over well to video. Feeling comfortable with your counsellor often matters more than the room you sit in. If you are not sure which suits you, our free 15-minute consultation by phone or video is a good place to talk it through.

  • You need a phone, tablet or computer with a camera, an internet connection and a private spot where you can talk freely. Headphones can help if other people are home. Our online sessions are for people who are in BC at the time of the session, so you can join from anywhere in the province.

  • You can still have counselling by video without a private room at home. Some people sit in a parked car, use headphones on a quiet walk, or find a closed room at work. Your counsellor can help you work out a setup that feels safe enough to talk, and you can share as much or as little as you like.

  • It may be, so it is worth checking your own plan. Many extended health plans cover Registered Clinical Counsellors and Canadian Certified Counsellors (RCC/CCC), and our team includes RCCs. Our fees and funding page explains other ways to pay, including sliding scale rates for eligible people.

  • Counselling by video is not an emergency service, so please do not wait for your next session. If you are in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 9-8-8, call 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433), or call 911 if you are in danger. Your counsellor can also talk with you at the start about what to do if a call drops during a hard moment.
