Wellness coaching is a holistic approach to health and wellness that focuses on improving overall well-being. It differs from traditional counseling as it focuses on empowering individuals to take control of their health and achieve their goals.
What it helps with
How it works
Early on
You and your counsellor look at your sleep, movement, eating, stress and energy. Then you pick the one or two goals that matter most to you right now.
As you go
Together you turn a goal into small steps, like a short walk after lunch or a set bedtime. You also plan what to do when a busy week gets in the way.
Over time
Each time you meet, you look at what helped and what did not, and change the plan. You and your counsellor decide together how long to keep going.

About
Wellness coaching is a holistic approach to health and wellness that focuses on improving overall well-being. It differs from traditional counseling as it focuses on empowering individuals to take control of their health and achieve their goals. The benefits of wellness coaching include increased self-awareness, improved lifestyle choices, and enhanced overall well-being.
Physical health is an integral part of overall wellness. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of mortality worldwide. In addition, a lack of physical activity is associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Wellness coaching can help individuals achieve their physical health goals through personalized support and guidance.
Nutrition plays a critical role in overall wellness. Poor nutrition can lead to various health problems such as obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease. According to the WHO, an unhealthy diet is one of the leading risk factors for death and disability worldwide. Wellness coaching can help individuals make healthier food choices and create sustainable eating habits.
Exercise is not only beneficial for physical health but also for mental health. According to the American Psychological Association, exercise can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve mood, and enhance cognitive function. However, many individuals struggle to incorporate regular physical activity into their daily routine. Wellness coaching can help individuals develop a personalized exercise plan and overcome barriers to regular physical activity.
Stress is a common problem in today's society and can have detrimental effects on overall well-being. Mindfulness and stress reduction techniques have been shown to be effective in reducing stress and improving mental health. Wellness coaching can help individuals incorporate these techniques into their daily lives and develop strategies to manage stress.

FAQs
Can't find your answer? Ask us a question.
In a session, you and your counsellor talk about how your week went and what you want to change. You might look at your sleep, energy, movement or stress, then choose one small step to try before you meet again, such as a short walk or a screen-free hour before bed. You can share as much or as little as you like, and the goals are always yours.
Wellness coaching focuses mostly on your daily habits and goals, while CBT focuses more on the link between your thoughts, feelings and actions. In coaching, you might plan how to fit movement or rest into a busy week. In CBT, you might write down a worried thought and look for other ways to see it. Neither is better; a counsellor can help you choose what fits you.
It can help many people find practical ways to manage everyday stress and worry. Your counsellor may help you build routines that support you, like regular sleep, time outside or short breathing breaks, and notice what drains your energy. If anxiety or low mood feels heavy or hard to manage, your counsellor may suggest adding another approach, such as CBT or mindfulness.
Yes, you can do wellness coaching online by video from anywhere in BC, or meet in person if you prefer. Many people find online sessions easy to fit around work and family. Our intake team suggests counsellors who fit what you need, your language, your budget and where you want to meet.
It depends on your plan and on your counsellor's registration. Many extended health plans cover Registered Clinical Counsellors and Canadian Certified Counsellors (RCC/CCC), so check your own plan before you start.
